iFMS: Spearheading India's Digital Fertilizer Revolution and Paving a New Path for Transparent Subsidy Management

Distilled Policy Brief

  • Developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for the Department of Fertilizers, the Integrated Fertilizer Management System (iFMS) digitally tracks the fertilizer lifecycle and manages approximately ₹2 lakh crore in annual subsidies across 14 crore+ Aadhaar-linked buyers, 2.5 lakh+ retailers, and nearly 7 crore metric tonnes of annual sales.
  • The iFMS integrates with AgriStack and state databases like Haryana's Meri Fasal Mera Byaora (MFMB) to enable the Framework for Fertilizer Sales (FFS), incorporating mobile app booking, land verification, and QR-based Point of Sale (PoS) validation.
  • Supply chain transparency is fortified using the Vehicle Location Tracking System (VLTS) for transit monitoring, while subsidy bill processing is directly linked to real-time sales logged through the PoS network.
